Swedish Word Order Exercises (V2 Rule – A2 to B2)
These exercises focus on V2 word order in Swedish main clauses (huvudsats).
The goal is to practice placing the finite verb in the correct second position, especially after adverbs, time phrases, and other sentence starters.
These exercises are suitable for A2 learners.

How to use these exercises
Fill in the blank with the correct word order
Pay attention to what comes first in the sentence
Remember: in a main clause, the verb must be in position 2
Try to answer before checking the solutions.
Exercise 1: Choose the correct position (V2)
Each sentence has two possible blank positions, but only one is correct.
Choose the position where the verb should appear to follow V2 word order.
Idag ___ jag ___ hemma.
(jobba)Ofta ___ hon ___ kaffe på morgonen.
(dricka)Här ___ vi ___ många studenter.
(träffa)I Sverige ___ man ___ mycket kaffe.

Exercise 2: Verb–subject order (V2)
Each sentence starts with a time or place expression.
Fill in both blanks:
one for the verb
one for the subject
Remember: in a main clause, the verb comes before the subject after these expressions.
Efter jobbet ___ ___ till gymmet.
(gå / jag)På sommaren ___ ___ mer.
(resa / vi)I helgen ___ ___ sina föräldrar.
(besöka / hon)På kontoret ___ ___ hela dagen.

Exercise 3: Sentence correction (find the error)
Each sentence has one word order mistake. Rewrite it correctly.
Idag jag arbetar hemma.
Ibland hon dricker te istället för kaffe.
